Junior Johnson

Obituary: WANETTE —Junior Johnson, 82, formerly of Wanette, passed away Saturday, May 7, 2011, in Stillwater.

He was born to D.D. and Jewel (Fanning) Johnson on March 30, 1929, in Wanette. Junior was raised in Wanette and was a 1947 graduate of Wanette High School. He joined the U.S. Army in 1948 and severed during the Korean conflict. Junior married Alpha Statzer on May 5, 1950, in Wanette. Following their marriage, they moved to Bartlesville in 1956 and lived there for 54 years until moving recently to Stillwater. He worked as an accountant for Phillips Petroleum in Bartlesville, retiring after 30 years of service. Junior was a 32° Scottish Rite Mason. He was a member of the Wanette Lodge, later transferring to Shawnee Lodge No. 107. He was a perfectionist in all aspects of his life. He enjoyed wood working and was meticulous in his lawn care. His family and work were the focal points of his life. Junior was preceded in death by his parents and brother, J.B. Johnson. He is survived by his wife, Alpha Johnson, of the home; two sons, Philip Johnson, Stillwater, and Ken and Lisa Johnson, Spring, Texas; four grandchildren, Michael Johnson, Mishelle Johnson, Angela Johnson, and Jeff Johnson; four great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Betty Johnson, Norman; and many friends and family. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until noon, Tuesday, May 10, 2011, at Cooper Funeral Home in Tecumseh. Visitation will resume at 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Wanette. Service will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 10, 2011, at Wanette First Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Ashworth officiating. Burial will follow at Wanette Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
